The Sunnyside Musical Backstage Crew is ramping up and is a great opportunity for middle schoolers to experience the mounting of a stage production from behind the scenes.

We’ll use the early rehearsal phase to learn about stage management and develop theater tech skills.  We’ll build sets and problem solve to make them work structurally onstage. We’ll make props and costume pieces, develop a lighting scheme and figure out our audio and lighting needs. We may have the chance this year to paint a large realistic backdrop, so aspiring scenic painters should step up!

By the time the show opens, we’ll have evolved into a masterful running crew of riggers, wranglers and operators. We’ll manage the backstage, operate the sound and lighting equipment—and we will be awesome!

The first rehearsal is this Thursday, January 4 from 3:15-5:15pm in the auditorium. It will be an information session, and we’ll begin developing the set.

We’ll follow the cast rehearsal schedule posted in the last PTSA Messenger: Performances will be the weekend of March 9, 10 and 11, 2018. (Exact dates and times TBD.) Rehearsals will take place Thursdays, from 3:15—5:15pm.
