Donors Choose campaign for MS OBOB titles and Chromebooks

Much-beloved teachers Heather Chaney and Carrie McCoy are teaming up to coach SES Middle School OBOB teams. To do this effectively and equitably, they need our help. Heather has set up a “Donors Choose” in hopes of obtaining the latest “Oregon Battle of the Books” (OBOB) titles for the Middle School, as well as four Chromebooks to supplement reading and writing instruction for all readers and writers, but especially for those who will benefit from access to audiobooks and other technology reading resources. ALL MS students will have access to these books and Chromebooks, whether they are participating in OBOB or not. The goal is to reignite a love for reading by having a wide variety of high-interest books at the fingertips of our middle schoolers. Donate here.

Please consider donating to Donor’s Choose, and be sure to use the code RIPPLE to gain us up to $50 in matching funds. Please also feel free to forward the link to anyone you think might donate and remind them of the code, RIPPLE! If you work for a business who likes to match “Donors Choose” or other funds for education, please share liberally! We have until November 1 to try and fund this endeavor.

  • The amazing and beloved Mo Philips as our MC (hammer time!)
  • Delicious food and desserts catereing to all the diets

SES QSA t-shirts now available to order

SES’s newly-formed 3×5 QSA has been working hard on many projects. The design team has created a brilliant QSA T-shirt design. They are selling shirts to show queer pride and queer ally-ship, and to raise money for the QSA club. They will use funds for events, advocacy, field studies and supply costs. To order, download an order form here or pay online at SchoolPay.  All t-shirt order forms are due by April 4 for Spring 2018 delivery. Forms can be dropped off in the envelope outside of Leo’s classroom (room 200).

The 3×5 QSA’s mission statement: “The 3rd through 5th grade Sunnyside Environmental School Queer Straight Alliance, known as the 3×5 QSA, stands for LGBTQIA+ rights. Our alliance’s goal is to help people feel comfortable with who they are and learn about the LGBTQIA+ community. Not only do we learn, but we also ask questions such as, “Do LGBTQIA students get the support they need and deserve?” and “If you are queer, do you feel comfortable speaking up and telling people?” We welcome both LGBTQIA students and allies. At QSA, we make sure everyone feels safe, supported and loved. One way we do that is by completing projects. For example, we make posters, t-shirts, mugs, and bookmarks to raise money for queer organizations, students of color clubs and our QSA. We also have space for conversations and read articles to learn more about important issues that affect the LGBTQIA community, both at Sunnyside and in the world.”

Tuesday, March 13: Laughing Planet SES donation day

Mark your calendars for our next donation night: Tuesday, March 13 at the 3320 SE Belmont Street Laughing Planet location. All eat in and pick-up orders made on that date at that location help support SES—to the tune of 15% of Laughing Planet’s proceeds. They are open every day from 11am-9pm, but on March 13 at 6pm SES’s own music teacher, Mo Phillips, will play live! Visit the Laughing Planet site and check out the menu.

Sunday, March 18: Shamrock Run, volunteer and raise funds for SES

UPDATEDownload forms and other information you’ll need to volunteer from this folder. Volunteer hours for this event are 6:30am-12:15pm.

We have the opportunity to volunteer again this year at the Shamrock Run. What do we gain from volunteering? We raise money for our Go Fund that helps cover all students trip costs for our overnight trips. Students receive service hours for volunteering, as well.

Did we mention that you get a T shirt? We need both students and adults. If you’re interested in volunteering and helping our school raise money for the Go Fund, please email Jarrett Altman.
