Friday, December 11: Riparian Festival
Dear Sunnyside Families,
Please join us for our annual winter curriculum showcase, the Riparian Festival, on December 11 from 5:30-7:45pm. Our students are hard at work preparing for this event, and are VERY excited to share their learning with you!
As for the name, the “Riparian Zone” is used to describe the place where a river and forest join (see the definition below). This year, for the first time in SES history, we have Year of the Forest and Year of the River curricula being taught concurrently in the middle school. This is our first “Riparian” Festival; however, this yearly, community festival is a long-standing tradition at our school. Please join us as we celebrate our school community through curriculum, the viewing of student work, delicious food and student performances.
ri·par·i·an
riˈpe(ə)rēən,rī-/
adjective
LAW
of, relating to, or situated on the banks of a river.
“all the riparian states must sign an agreement”
ECOLOGY
of or relating to wetlands adjacent to rivers and streams.
On the 11th, the 3rd-8th grade classrooms will be open from 5:30-7pm; students will showcase their work for our families and community. In addition to the classroom viewing, we have several other fun activities planned, including:
- live birds of prey from the Audubon Society
- craft room
- SES clothing for sale (T-Shirts for $12-$15; sweatshirts for $20-$25, cash or check only)
- yummy lasagna/salad/cookie dinner ($5 donation)
This is a wonderfully sweet event, one where we greatly appreciate the help of as many parent volunteers as possible. Most of the evening is run by our students—your children—but we would love to have parent help in the kitchen.
Specifically, please sign up to bring a lasagna/baked goods for the dinner or please sign up for a shift to help serve, set up or clean up in the cafeteria. Click this link to sign up.
Thank you again and I look forward to seeing you on the 11th!
Amy
