Read-A-Thon rules

  1. PARTICIPATION:
    All students enrolled at SES are eligible to participate in the Read-A-Thon fundraiser. Parent/guardian must sign the Pledge Form for student participation. Parents/Guardians who would like to help raise funds are also encouraged to participate. Pledge forms are available here.
  2. PRIZES:
    Prizes will be awarded to top unit readers and top fundraisers. Only SES students are eligible for Read-A- Thon prizes. Prizes to be awarded week of March 20, 2017.
  3. DATES:
    The Read-A-Thon Reading days runs from Tuesday, February 21 through Monday, March 6. Please return your completed Unit Reading/Pledge Form and all collected pledges to the SES office (or online) starting Tuesday, March 7, and no later than Tuesday, March 14 for the reading and pledges to be eligible for prizes.
  4. PLEDGES:
    Students are encouraged to get as many pledges as they can. You can raise money for SES by having your sponsors pledge a certain amount per unit read or by pledging a flat amount for the fundraiser. Pledge online at www.sesptsa.org/read-a-thon-payment. Top fundraisers receive prizes! 
  5. SCORING:
    Each participant’s Unit Score is considered the number of units of reading time completed and verified by the participant’s parent. Verification is indicated by a parent’s initials next to the units read for each day on the Reading Log.UNIT BREAKDOWN BY GRADE LEVEL
    Grades K—2: 10 minutes of reading = 1 unit
    Grades 3—8: 20 minutes of reading = 1 unit
    Adults: 30 minutes of reading = 1 unit
    Students too young to read alone may count time read to as units. Family member may collect pledges, too, but cannot combine units or $$. Assigned reading also counts toward reading units.
  6. SAFETY:
    Collect pledges only from people you know. Do not ask strangers! 
  7. CHECKS:
    Checks should be made out to “SES PTSA.”
  8. TURNING IN PLEDGES:
    Please return your completed Unit Reading/Pledge Form and all collected pledges to the SES office (or online) starting Tuesday, March 7 and no later than Tuesday, March 14 for the reading and pledges to be eligible for prizes.
