Apply for a micro grant from the SES PTSA!

The SES PTSA is piloting a new micro grant program to fund small projects led by students, teachers, staff, families, and social groups. The goal is to make funding available to support SES community projects and events that might be too small to normally be considered by PTSA, but that are important and benefit the community.  Micro grants are being made available for $50-$500.

Projects should support the Sunnyside mission of community, teaching and learning, place-based learning, social and environmental justice, and student empowerment. Projects should benefit the broader Sunnyside community.

Please read through the FAQs below. Then if you have a project idea that fits the requirements, you can apply via the Google Form here.

If you have more questions or would like to join the committee, please email microgrants@sesptsa.org.

Micro Grant FAQ

Who can apply?

All SES community members, including students, teachers, staff, families and social groups.

How much should I ask for? How much funding is available?

This year’s fund requests should be between $50-$500. Overall, we have $5,000 available for this year. For larger projects, please contact the PTSA about fundraising ideas.

How do I apply?

Fill out and submit the Online Form and a Budget Template.

What is the process for evaluating grant applications?

A volunteer-led committee will evaluate the proposals according to the following criteria. The committee will make recommendations to the PTSA board, who will make final decisions on allocation of funds.

  • Does the proposal benefit the broader Sunnyside community?
  • Is the project in line with the Sunnyside mission
  • Are there other sources of funds or supplies available?
  • Is the request for a reasonable amount of funds in line with the goals of the project?
  • Is the project doable – is it realistic with the available resources?

What do we fund?

Examples of eligible projects:

  • Supplies for a special class project that benefits the broader community.
  • A teacher, student, or social group wants to bring a local performer, author, film, musician, etc. to the school and other funds are not available for this.
  • Materials or supplies to support a playground mural or art project.
  • Supplies or food for an event that is open to members of the SES community.

Examples of projects that would not be eligible:

  • A small group of friends going out to eat. Doesn’t benefit the broader community.
  • One OBOB team wants a set of books just for their team. Doesn’t benefit the broader community.
  • A huge full-scale remodel of the playground. Too big and not realistic with the amount of money available.
  • An art project that uses materials already available at Sunnyside. Other sources are available.

Coming soon- examples of successful funded projects!
