Sunnyside Westwind Weekend

Stroll along a mile of pristine Oregon beach; build fairy houses and gnome homes in the dune forest; watch for seals, whales and eagles; play Uno, read a book by the fire or just hang out with friends, new and old…it will soon be Spring at Westwind!

All SES families are invited to the annual Sunnyside Westwind Weekend, from Friday to Sunday, April 7-9, 2017. A longstanding tradition—and great way to get to know other Sunnyside families—the Sunnyside Westwind Weekend is a cooperative, two-night retreat for only $75 per person, including food and lodging.

For those of you unfamiliar with this longstanding EMS/SES tradition, you are in for a treat. The PTSA coordinates a cooperative family campout at Camp Westwind on the Oregon coast near Lincoln City. All campers pitch in with cooking, cleaning and creating cherished memories.

Weekend details

We are set to camp the weekend of Friday, April 7 to Sunday, April 9. (Friday the 7th is a teacher planning day with no school for students.) The ferry to Westwind runs at 12:30pm on Friday and returns at 12:30 pm on Sunday. Westwind is a 529 acre camp, farm and wilderness area set in the middle of the Cascade Head UN Biosphere Reserve in Oregon owned and operated by the Westwind Stewardship Group. Please see their website for further information.

Weekend cost

The cost this year is $75 per person (except for co-sleeping infants) and includes meals and lodging. We are able to offer a limited number of partial scholarships for families. For those on scholarship, the cost will be $30-$70 per person, on a sliding scale. In addition, we have a few working scholarships for people willing to take on significant work responsibilities during the weekend. As in the past, refunds will only be granted if we are able to fill your space at camp.

If you’re interested in attending or, even better, being part of the organizing team, please come to a meeting on Wednesday, March 1 at 4pm in the auditorium. The organizing team that’s been in place for many years has moved on, but we want to maintain this wonderful tradition. Please come learn about the weekend and the different roles there are to play in making it happen.
