Wednesday, March 9, 6-7pm: site council information
Please join us on March 9 for an open introduction to the SES site council. Site council is a leadership body that brings together parents, teachers, classified employees and school administration to improve student learning and implement the school improvement plan. This small group will focus on defining, communicating and sustaining the SES vision and culture by bringing together various members of the school community on a regular basis. Ideally, we will meet monthly to engage in discussion of our school goals around equity of access and our place-based curriculum, ask challenging questions, examine data, foster family and community engagement, and determine actionable steps to reach our goals. All of site council’s work will be framed within the context of racial equity as outlined in the PPS equity policy and the focus will be on our current school improvement goals (more information will be shared at the initial meeting). Much of this work has been done in recent years through collaboration between the staff equity team and parents who participate in the Parents Talk Racial Equity (PTRE) curriculum—this is a different way to structure leadership that encompasses current school practices and the work of recent years. Site council meetings will not replace PTRE meetings or PTSA meetings—this is a separate leadership body that will convene semi-regularly.
The March 9 will be an open, informational session. Please come! Limited childcare (with RSVP) will be provided. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org if you plan to attend and need middle school babysitting for your K-5 student.
